The Farm Animal Stewardship Purchasing Act: A Little About it.

This bill is currently being debated. I’m not one to believe too much that congress in any way listens to average people, but it might be worth your time to ask them to support it.

Here is a summation:

Would require those who supply food to the federal government (military, federal prisons, school lunches and other programs) to meet basic and modest welfare standards for farm animals when they are alive.

These standards would not be mandatory industry-wide.

Only those who wish to contract with the federal government would be subject to this law.

In 1958, Congress enacted the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act. However, there are currently no laws for the humane treatment of farm animals while they are alive.
